During the last month of the year, my students need a December brain break, or maybe a brain boost. The days are getting shorter, but the school days sure seem long! For my holiday tip, I’m sharing my December brain break resource. It’s a little “wiggle break” for PK-1 that doubles as a review of story elements. It’s called “Move It! Move It!” — a fun set of PowerPoint slides that get my students up and moving in a very good way. Each slide displays a mini story about a December holiday. These include Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s Eve.
How I Use My December Brain Break Resource
As I project each December brain break up on our white board and read it aloud, my students turn on the drama! They love to pretend to be the main character, acting out the story with a beginning, middle, and end. These mini-stories are great when you need a quick transition activity, or when your students are just feeling a little restless.
