Four Back to School Library Lessons
1) LIBRARY LESSON for PreK-2nd grade
Woody Bookworm Takes Care of Books is an original, book care story – in PowerPoint format with illustrations — so you can project it like an e-book. It tells the story of Woody Bookworm, who is super excited about visiting his school library and checking out free books. When he realizes that his friends don’t know the librarian’s book care rules yet, Woody scoots in to try and keep his buddies out of trouble!
As a bonus, this story includes two sorting activities (one for littles and the other one for older students) as well as stick puppets for retelling. https://bit.ly/3C5pTs5
2) LIBRARY GAME for 1st-4th grade
After reading Woody Bookworm — or another old favorite, What Happened to Marion’s Book? — this bingo/tic-tac-toe game will be the perfect follow-up! (HINT: Reuse it! The game provides great reminders for that first library lesson right after winter break.)
Have students use bingo markers, buttons, or the included “Marion” markers as they listen for all the book care rules. https://bit.ly/3BZM42F
3) LIBRARY LESSON for PreK-3rd grade
This PowerPoint lesson covers basic computer care rules that count for a variety of devices, such as Chromebooks, iPads, and other tablets. The lesson features fun, colorful dinosaur clipart and pairs well as a follow-up for the book, We Don’t Eat our Classmates!) (There are extra slides to change the title to “We Don’t Eat our iPads!” “We Don’t Eat our Tablets!” and so on, so you can match your school situation.
This lesson also includes a simple exit ticket assessment piece. https://bit.ly/3dqsxOI
4) LIBRARY GAME for 3rd-4th grade
SCOOT – Taking Care of Library Resources By third and fourth grade, your students have heard those ol’ book care rules a time or two already! (But they STILL need a reminder!) Why not flip your lesson a bit, and let the big kids take a more active role in leading the discussion concerning how library resources should be treated?
This lesson also includes a description of how my library classes play SCOOT. https://bit.ly/3AfSNEe
These four lessons will help establish your LIBRARY as the fun place to be!
