February Library Centers with GroundHUG’s Day Book
When I was a brand-new kindergarten teacher back in the mid-1980s, I was lucky to find ANY book about Groundhog’s Day! Now there are several good titles with facts and fiction galore. While flipping through our selection a few weeks ago, I think I found the perfect choice for February library lessons!
BOOK TALK / GROUNDHUG’S DAY – Author Anne Marie Pace has come up with a heart-warming tale of a moose who is plannning a Valentine’s Day party with friends. He wants his buddy Groundhog to be a part of the fun, but he is worried. If Groundhog sees his shadow, he’ll go back to sleep for six more weeks — and miss the party! Moose and friends begin to brainstorm how they can make sure Groundhog DOESN’T see that shadow! Then, they switch gears and decide to show Groundhog how much FUN shadows can be.
Being a February birthday girl, I was particularly drawn to this book, so I used it as inspiration for a new TPT resource. If you love library centers, there’s a little something for everyone! I’ve included a science lesson about shadows, a little about animal silhouettes, and some dramatic play with shadow puppets. With so much February fun in one place, your library lesson planning our the shortest month will be a breeze!
Take care,
