BOOK TALKS – THE LIFE OF A LITTLE CARDBOARD BOX (or PLASTIC BOTTLE) / Using personification, these two nonfiction e-books outline the recycling processes for a brown cardboard box and a drink bottle. Although told in simple terms, the story and illustrations do a good job of explaining ways to reuse and recycle these common items. (These titles are also available in paperback and board book form on Amazon.)

BOOK TALK – FIRST LIE WINS (adult fiction) / We just finished this "Reese's Book Club" pick as a road-trip choice. It definitely made the miles fly by quickly! If you enjoy mysteries, put it on your to-be-read list.

Corruption, money, and murder… Evie Porter is up to her ears in all of it… and yet, she seems like such a nice, Southern girl. New in town, she orchestrates a flat tire and a tragic past. Her potential boyfriend, Ryan, appears right on schedule…and falls easily…just as she planned. Still, while Evie usually excels at her fictional lives, she’s a bit unnerved this time around. She has researched this new mark thoroughly and is ready to do whatever is necessary to fulfill her mysterious boss’ latest assignment. Nonetheless, she has reason to be overly cautious…an ominous warning has been cast about repeating her last mission’s mistake.

RESOURCE TALK – LIBRARIAN RETIREMENT SET / Are you about to say good-bye to an “old-school” librarian? (One who remembers typing up all those little catalog cards and pockets? Whew…that was a lot of extra work!!)

My retirement resource contains a pdf and jpgs to create a nostalgic, “library pocket-themed” invite. I can prep a file with the dates you need as a custom order… or you can upload one of the included jpgs and add the dates with your own text boxes, using Word, PowerPoint, Canva, etc. (This resource does not include the actual invitations... just the printable template that you can print or share online.)

Need refreshment ideas for your gathering? This set also includes fun table labels for your food items -- and even some helpful links for yummy recipe ideas!

BOOK TALK – HOUR OF THE BEES / This one goes in my “Why did I wait to read this?” pile!

Carol (short for Caro-leeee-na as her Grandpa Serge pronounces it) is grudgingly spending the summer in the middle of the barren New Mexico desert. As she gets to know her dad’s dad for the very first time, she also helps her parents prep his home and sheep farm for sale. (The goal is to move Grandpa into a home for those suffering from dementia – a move that he vehemently opposes!)

At first, Carol is wary of her Grandpa and his accusations that she has denied her Mexican heritage. But, as the stifling summer drags on, she finds herself drawn to him, fascinated by his crazy stories about a magical healing tree that prolongs life and a wish for rain-bringing bees that could finally end the farm’s 100-year drought.

As the thin line between Grandpa’s fiction and his reality continues to blur, Carol must learn to embrace her roots – and decide if her Grandpa’s stories are a prophecy or simply a result of his mental illness.
